Kicking off Science Week with some frozen fingers!
This week is Science Week in St. Canice's! We will be learning about winter and Antarctica over the next few weeks. We learned all the different animals that live in cold places last week and we wondered how they manage to keep themselves so warm! The girls learned that animals store lots of fat in their bodies which act like blankets, and their fur keep them warm too.
We did an experiment to see how fat can keep us warm. We put oil in two plastic bags and put one hand in between them. Then we put our hand in another bag without the oil. Then the girls had a turn at putting their hands in ice cold water. The oil kept our hands nice and warm - just like the fat keeps animals warm.
